• Myth: Oilheat is dirty.
Truth: Oilheat burns clean.
Achievements in oil burner technology have resulted in emissions levels approaching zero. In fact, Oilheat burns so cleanly its emissions aren't regulated by the Federal Clean Air Act. Also, low-sulfur products and biofuels, such as those made from soybeans and other vegetable oils, are reducing emissions even further.

• Myth: Oilheat explodes.
Truth: Oilheat does not explode.
Oilheat will not burn in a liquid state. For heating oil to light on fire, it must be heated above 140°F, the temperature at which point it begins to vaporize. If you were to drop a match into heating oil, it would extinguish just as if it were dropped into water.

• Myth: Heating oil tanks are unsafe.
Truth: Heating oil tanks are extremely safe.
